Richard Rosenthal is the father of Joe Rosenthal in the Walkyverse and Dumbing of Age continuities. As it turns out, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Richard Rosenthal appeared in "College Ho!", the first issue of the short-lived Roomies! comic book published by Keenspot back in 2002. Along with Danny's parents, he was visiting the Indiana University campus as part of a Freshman Orientation tour group, although he seemed to be substantially more interested in the (ahem) student body.
To nobody's great surprise, Joe's parents subsequently divorced in the Roomies! Redux strips. Each then proceeded to rack up a small fortune in credit card debt trying to buy their son's love, leading Joe to proclaim "Divorce is awesome!"
Joe later turned his parents' presents into a hover-cart, but that's another story entirely.

- Joe is dismayed to discover that the IU cheerleader he's hitting on is actually his father's girlfriend. Either Richard moves fast, or this wasn't his first time on-campus.
Dumbing of Age[]

Dr. Rosenthal made a brief but memorable appearance in the Freshmen Family Weekend arc, where he hit on Sarah Clinton and successfully seduced Amber's mom. Sarah accurately describes him as "just (Joe) with a beard."
Trivia[]
- According to David Willis, he's a BONE doctor. Or more formally, an orthopedic surgeon.
- The gray stripes in his beard were added to differentiate him from Walkyverse Joe.
- He's divorced in the Dumbiverse, too. Can't imagine why.
